So we ran the Fayetteville 1/2 Marathon Sunday. Everyone did great, we ran pretty much the times that we had ran in training. I ran 2:19:52, not fast but under 2:30 and that was my goal. It was about 18 degrees with a 20-30 mph wind, it was cold. I may never run that distance again, my plan is to get a schedule for maintaining weight and fitness but not to be a "runner".
So this blog is over, I may let it die or use it for some other motivation in the future but for now it has served its purpose.

Run
Missed Thur. run, dinner with friends. Took off early Fri to run before dark, 4M--42:34. Ran this morning, 31 degrees, tried out my new running clothes. Wore running tight pants, wind pants, tech long sleeve shirt, outer shirt, fleece top, knit cap and gloves. Pants were great, just warm enough, too much for shirts, sweating after a mile, did not need the fleece. Hat came off at 3 M, gloves at 5M. I will wear them next Sun with the plan of taking them off when I get warmed up. Run today of 8M--1hour, 28:55. Not bad, I think I am as ready as I will ever be. Easy week leading up to Sun.

Run
Ran today, SCT & MCT, 10 M--1h, 47 min. Plan was to run 5 miles away from the truck and by god I would either run or walk 10 miles today. Plan worked, ran down to 5 mile turn around, did not feel too bad, knew I could run 6, got to 6 and thought I could go 8 back to the end of SCT, got there and knew I could run the last 2 on SCT, I already run it 3-4 times a week. Finished 10 without walking, yea.

Run
Ran 112 Friday afternoon, 3M- 32min. uneventful.
First failed run Sunday. Plan was to park between SCT and Frisco and run 4M down each with water from the truck after the first 4M. Ran the first 4 pretty easy, way to fast, grabbed water before starting the next 4 and tried to run and drink, not easy, so I walked a 100 yards and sucked down a bottle. Started back and felt bad. Finally stopped after .75, walked up to the M marker and turned around, ran the last .5. Just never could get going after stopping for water. It was hot with a lot of head wind. Seemed to be in slow motion.
Ran 5.25, walked .75 in 68 min. still decent time but did not complete planned 8M. Disappointing.

Run
Ran SCT & part of Frisco, 6M - 64 min. Well now I know I can run a 10K.
6 miles, sweat and 100% cotton makes for some pretty fine sand paper, Nipple bleed at about 5 mile marker. Sweet!! Must wear pasties in the future.

Run
Ran 112 last night after dark. 3M - 32min. Ran the route backwards and it made a real difference. I guess the climb of the hills is the same but the grade seems less, it felt much better. Still hills but I know how I will take them in the future. 6M tomorrow, Oh Joy!

Ran SCT this afternoon. 4M-42min. That proves that its the hills at 112 that are killing my time.

AM Run

Run run
Friday afternoon we ran 112 neighborhood route, 3M -31 min. A little slower than the day before but a little warmer and with hills so not too bad. Today I was less than excited about 4 miles. I went to SCT and decided I only wanted to finish the 4 without any walking. So far I have ran all the miles without walking and I was hoping to continue that trend. I thought I started slow and the time would be slower. Towards the end I may have gotten into "running like hell to get the agony over with" pace. Anyway, 4 miles at 41 min. Keeping my little over 10 min pace alive and no walking. Should have drank more water this morning, very dry toward the end.

A few other quotes.
Run like hell and get the agony over with.
The only good race pace is suicide pace, and today looks like a good day to die.
Run like you stole something.
Mark, we may need to get Tshirts with this quote.

Run w/hills
We tried a new route yesterday. A previous abandoned subdivision on WC112 (future abbrev 112). It is a big loop with a inner loop that if you run the outside and then the inside it is the perfect 1 mile. It starts out flat and then turns goes up a decent hill, then turns and goes down a gentle slope, then turns down the backside and flattens out back to the start, if you continue around the center street which splits the circle it has a medium hill, around and back to the start, it is a complete mile.
Hills were a new change in training. I ran it 3 times = 3miles, a few seconds under 30 min. Keeping my 10 min mile. Knee is good this morning, happy with the run and the new route.

Wood
Well I skipped Sundays run. I cut, split and hauled firewood Sat and Sun. I am sore all over and felt like I had done enough work to justify skipping the 3.5. But I may go ahead and run it this afternoon. Not any short runs from here on, I need to keep up the pace.

Run Run
I ran last night, CCT 2.5M @25min. Not bad, cool run, but due to so much going on tonight I decided I would have to run this morning. So 12 hours after the first run I was back at CCT for another run. 2.5M @ 26min. A little different run, it was dark and cold. About 40 degrees and in shorts and t-shirt my arms and hands were cold. It also seemed to be harder to judge my pace and having to watch my steps in the dark it took a little off my time. I went straight to WalMart and bought sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt, morning runs will require the shirt, pants maybe later.
Starting to notice that breathing is getting better about 1.25M, less winded and I start to think of the running and not the breathing, I think that is a good sign. Also bought some 34-32 jeans this morning, now that is bizarre, last time I had some 34's were before Joe was born. If I ever see 32-32 again it would be a miracle but I will also look like a heroin addict.
But running is over for today, I will do 3.5 Sun. Yea (very sarcastic "yea")
Bikes, Blue & BarBQ tonight.

Took the bike out for a quick spin yesterday, did not want to miss a day of some work. I am behind from last week.
2.5M today planned, not looking forward to it but it is nice and cool now.

Run
After my last post complaining about the blown up knee I took 3 running days off after consulting with my personal physician Angela. Knee is better, tiny bit of swelling, just a tightness on the outside. I did push mow my yard sunday afternoon. 3 1/2 hours of pushing should have been good for some training. Yard looks great by the way. So last night I bought a knee brace at Walmart and hit CCT. Just did 2 M @ a little under 20min, thought I would go easy and see how the knee felt. Feels OK this morning, training resumes, back all in for 1/2 Marathon.

Knee
Right knee was huge yesterday. No running planned and none done. If I had to send the money today for the 1/2 Marathon I would not. 10K is looking better every day. I will run 2M this afternoon and see how it is tonight.

Fri & Sun
Friday I ran 2 miles on Clabber Creek trail. My times seem to be all over the place. Not sure if it is due to Clabber being so flat but it was a quick run, 18 min. Sunday was not. 2.5 miles on Scull Creek, 30 min. It did not seem like I was going slower. I did run into a friend at 1.5 who rode his bike until 2M and we talked the entire way. Scull C T also has several up hill bridge and road crossings, I was happy to do 2.5 without stopping, it was humid and the walk back to the car was a nice warm down. Knee is OK this morning.

Run
Ran last night after a short trip out to Dombeks. Clabber Creek trail, 2M at 18 min. Suprised at the time but double checked time and distance, must be improving. I thought the 2 vodka tonics before the run would slow me down, turned out OK.

5 M on the bike last night, Scull Creek trail. Working at Dombeks after work and then hopefully 2 M run.

Run Tue
Ran 1.5 M in 15min last night. Not too hard, ran sidewalks at Clabber Creek.
Thanks to Mark I managed to post his great training schedule below. I started his training routine this week and hope to keep it updated until 1/2 marathon day, Dec 12th. Slow and steady every other day until we are ready for 13 miles.

Run
2 miles on Clabber Creek last night. First 2 miles without stopping, about 10 min miles, felt good, a little knee puffyness.

Get this started.
Alright, I have been looking at Marks blog and admiring his 1/2 marathon training post so I decided to start my own. I will try to not ramble too much or tell you embarrassing information. Just what is happening to us and how our running is going. Posting here will also shame me into continuing to run since it will be here for the world to see.
Jenean and I plan to run a 1/2 marathon in Dec and since both of us have been out of running for several years, (like 25 for me) it is a goal that is both motivating and scary. Since Jan of this year I have lost about 65lbs, but I should lose another 15 to get to the ideal weight. I lost it by going low carb and low cal and some treadmill work, but the last 15 is not coming off easily. I have started pretty slowly to build up longer runs and less walking. I have also mixed in some bike riding on the days that I do not run. So far the bad knee is holding up OK. Some swelling at first but less the past 2 weeks. Friday I biked 7 miles on Scull Creek trail, a nice ride. Sat. I ran 1.7 miles on Clabber Creek trail, hot and at a fast pace but I made it without being too winded. Took Sun off but did some painting for George Dombek so I did get out and worked up a sweat.
Must run this afternoon after work.
